Entrepreneurs: London start-up Emolument plots to become the TripAdvisor of pay

Three French entrepreneurs have come to help us find the answer to the question Brits daren't ask: how much are our colleagues and friends earning and how does our pay compare?

They've signed up 110,000 people to their site Emolument.com, which crowdsources data on pay and helps users benchmark their salaries.

As one of our investors said, we are tapping in to two very powerful human emotions: greed and curiosity, says Thomas Drewry, who came up with the idea for Emolument after a career as an investment banker turned headhunter and pitched it to schoolfriend Olivier Beau de Lomenie, who had been part of the team that built online grocer Ocado.
